Unlike for many people, these activities are not at all a distraction for me. Instead, they boost my confidence and I feel capable of doing things which I couldn’t do before. For every activity, I attempt to enter a different mind-set, so that I could do my best. Same goes for writing.
Creation is a marvellous thing. I have always wanted to possess the ability to create things. It just gives a peculiar feeling deep inside. With creating fiction, you can do just that. You can create people, their different personalities, and different lives; and twist them according to your intention for the character. And I like twisting them to an extent you find it thrilling. For instance, Ron Clark almost dies five times in the book. And every time he experiences that, I try to feel it too. It gives me thrills. And I just love it.
You probably won’t believe me, but it all started when I was around eight or nine. I had written a short story called ‘The Haunted Story’, in my diary. Surprisingly, that short story transformed into the first two chapters of “Ron Clark and the Veracity.” Well, as I did tell you, I have always loved creating fiction.
I wouldn’t say ‘a huge percentage’. In my experience, almost every teenager I’ve met, loves books. But if the rest don’t, I think it is majorly because of the gadgets that have stirred today’s society. The teens say that the study load has increased and we no longer find idle time in our day. But they spend at least an hour on the phone a day. You know, I don’t really have a smartphone. I mean, I own it, but I only get it when I really need it; otherwise it stays locked up in my father’s cupboard. And I don’t regret it. Without phones in your life, you truly get to discover what’s beyond. And I think, partially, that’s what triggers my creative juices.
Well, I wouldn’t say that the schools are doing much for slightly elder students. As I remember, when I was in the first grade, we used to have a small library in our class and we were supposed to read its books in every free period. But after the third grade, I guess, this practice stopped. Then I shifted schools and I don’t think there is such a system in these individual classes anymore. There are three libraries in our school for all the three wings and we desperately await the weekly library period. So, basically reading isn’t very frequent for us.
Well, this is a no-brainer. It’s the Percy Jackson and the Harry Potter series; because they are fiction thrillers, of course. These stories make me feel what the protagonist is feeling, and it is thrilling. This feeling for the readers is what I aim to achieve in my book.
