A police job and a creative bent of mind, do they gel?

Luckily, there was every reason to keep me going the way that suited me most: to keep my muse in creativity alive and kicking. You know how stifling government jobs can be. The police job is exciting , but takes a toll of your aman and chain. It is precisely for this reason that I did not let my natural instincts suffer. I did everything I could to paint, sing, and enjoy literature.

What fascinates you about Doon and what are the future literary possibilities here?

Dehradun is so full of creative energy all around.  That might explain why this town and its twin, Mussoorie, have given so many well-known authors to the world. I see every reason why we will see many more authors rise here to contribute to the wealth of fine literature we have seen being created so far.

Literature festivals will contribute to enhancement of literary creativity in the people of Dehra as well as the whole state. The fact that visual art has also been included is a factor which will contribute to creativity in the field of the visual medium. There will be sections to attract painters and photographers. We also hope to have an evening of ghazal singing.

Please tell us a bit about your family’s contribution to the creative movement in Uttarakhand.

I have the great luck to be from a family of poets. My father and three of my brothers have their place among well-known Urdu poets. Almost the entire family has the ability to write well, and we have a number of well-known journalists and authors. In the last few months, as many as half a dozen books have been released by my close family. My son, Maanas, is a writer too and has created a niche for himself in the world of photography and art .

Please enlighten us about your role in the upcoming Valley of Words: International Literature and Arts Fest 2017?

The upcoming Valley of Words has two distinct facets, the written word as in literature, and art as in painting and photography. I will be helping out in the Urdu and Visual art section of the festival.
