Reva and Prisha
Can you drink a caterpillar’s susu?
Are flowers food?
Do vegetables have bones?
And, if stripes are slimming, are checks getting fatter?
Come and hang out with the Sahils—twins Reva and Prisha, and their mothers, Runu and Pritam—as they jump from dreams to food to school to walks, and discover the world together, with joy, fun and friendship.
Shals Mahajan is a writer, layabout, part feline, somewhat hooman, genderqueer fellow who lives in Bombay, but mainly in their head. They like reading and writing and talking to the koel and the copperpod tree on which the koel lives. And rain. Their other books include Timmi in Tangles, Timmi and Rizu and No Outlaws in the Gender Galaxy.
‘The caterpillar had a green mooch and she wanted my book. To eat!’ Reva had just woken up from her nap and was a bit upset. ‘When I said no, she said, “A nibble will do.” Is this how you should behave with a book?’ Reva got even more upset as she remembered.
‘Why not?’ asked Prisha. ‘There is so much book and she is so small. You should’ve given her a little.’
‘How do you know she is small? It was my dream.’
Prisha removed the blanky that was covering her head.
‘So what? I know the caterpillar. We like to talk. She is very cute and nice and leaves small drops on the leaves. Round and shiny.’
‘That’s her susu,’ Reva said knowingly. Then she giggled and said, ‘I bet you licked it,’ and collapsed into laughter.
