The book "Mandiron ka Nagar: Bishnupur" opens the curiosity of the readers about the history of Bishnupur, the city of a glorious heritage until its extinction. These sort of rare terracota temples are not found anywhere else in the world, except this city of Bengal. The writer has tried to tell the readers about this temple group built by the kings of the Malla with his effort and hard work. At the same time, detailed descriptions about all the kings of the dynasty also have been given in the book. Whereas, the mythological and historical stories, incidents related to the kings, detailed information on the construction of the temples etc. have also been included in the book. Some of the pictures taken by the author are also available in the book which makes this travel story more interesting. In a way, the book is just like visiting the religious town of Bishnupur through the eyes of the author, which makes it very interesting and readable. Everything is narrated in such a simple language that the reader also travels with the author. This book can prove to be boon for students and researchers.

About the Author: 

Born in Dehradun in 1966, Tapas Chakraborty, had a flair for writing since childhood. Employed with the Central GST (Ministry of Finance, Govt of India), he is one of the successful officers of the department. Since, he started writing at a tender age of 12 years, he never looked back. Besides this , he has been contributing several pieces of article for “ Amar Ujala “ , “ Times of India “, “ Janwani” , “ Doon Classified “ and “ India Today “ , etc. In the past, he has also been associated with magazines viz. “Northern Flash” , “ Khelbharti “, “ Cricket Samrat” and “ Sportsweek” too.

Tapas is able to write in Hindi as well as English. Short stories, stories, memoirs and travelogues are his volte face. He has three books to his credit so far. His first book “Tinke “(2011) was a book of 26 short stories penned down by him. It was launched by the then Agriculture Minister (Now CM) Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat. His second boon “Ruk Jana Nahin” (2016), was based on his 26 best travel stories. The book launched by Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank , MP and former CM, eventually got him the prestigious Rajbhasha Gaurav award, a citation and a Cash award from the Department of Official Language (Ministry of Home). The award was given by the Rajbhasha Secretary in the presence of the Honourable President of India. His third book “Mandiron ka Nagar: Bishnupur” (2018) is the book under nomination for the REC-VoW awards.

His forthcoming venture (Fourth book) “Avismarniy Europe” has also been published and is going to be launched soon. This is based upon his travel to 4 European countries, namely France, Belgium , Germany and Switzerland etc. Awarded several times by his own department and Nagar Rajbhasha Samiti, he has been taking active part in AIR programmes in addition to contributing for numerous magazines.
