An Author’s Word: Sakoon Singh

  1. If not an author, which other creative field would one find you in and why?

I could have been an architect or a musician. I think the common thread running  through all these is the ability to imagine and creatively evoke, and to be able to work with abstractions, which I enjoy.

  1. What does the written word mean to you?

The written word is incredible: it has a silent capacity to transport you to eras of the future and past, into lands far away, into the minds of characters that are nothing like you. It can be a time-machine and it can be a perspective shift.

  1. Your personal favourite five authors in any genre.

Shakespeare, Bullah Shah, Virginia Woolf, Amitav Ghosh, Milan Kundera

  1. What is your favourite word, in any language, and how would you describe its meaning?

Petta Reddast: (Icelandic) Things will fix themselves.

  1. E-Book or physical book? What do you prefer and why?

Physical book. Any day! It’s an entity that acquires a personality, it ages, you can return to it anytime,  fuss about its cover artwork, grow old with it, make it your very own with scribbles on the margins.
