An Author’s Word: Paro Anand

1. If not an author which other creative field would one find you in and why?

A rock star – not just a singer, but a total star. Only one small problem, I can’t sing…

2.What does the written word mean to you?

Sometimes, when I want to say something of great importance to my kids, I write to them. A strong, deep, often intense letter. Because I find myself more coherent, more thoughtful when I write, rather than when i speak. I depend upon the written, rather than the spoken.

3.Your personal favourite five authors in any genre.

Roald Dahl, JK Rowling of course. but those go without saying. so my 5 are:

  • Payal Dhar
  • Natasha Sharma
  • Sidhartha Sarma
  • Andleeb Wajid
  • Deepa Agarwal

4. What is your favourite word, in any language, and how would you describe its meaning?

Can one really have a one word favourite? But, ok, Roald Dahl’s ‘scrumdiddlyumptious’ it is and in Hindi its ‘sukoon‘ such peace in there.

5. E-Book or physical book? What do you prefer and why?

Physical for sure. I am too distracted by social media, shopping, games online.  and love to see a book waiting on my bedside when I turn in at night. Such a steadying sight. Cuts out the world, your day’s excitement and worries and I just drift into another world. Online, there’s too much ‘connectedness’.

If you want a shorter answer here it is:

An ebook keeps you connected with the outside. the physical dissolves the outside and takes you into a parallel universe.
