An Author’s Word: Osman Haneef

1. If not an author which other creative field would one find you in and why?

A filmmaker because, at the end of the day, I just want to tell thought provoking stories that entertain and move audiences.

2. What does the written word mean to you?

The written word is a fundamental building block of human civilization.  Advances in science and technology are developed and shared through the written word. The idea of nations, religions, laws, and regulations, have all been codified and communicated through the written word. To sum up, it means quite a lot.

3.Your personal favourite five authors in any genre.

Kazuo Ishiguro, Tolstoy, Arundhati Roy, Julian Barnes, Oscar Wilde

4. What is your favourite word, in any language, and how would you describe its meaning?

‘Ikigai’— a Japanese word that captures a person’s “reason for being.” It describes what happens when our passions and talents intersect with what the world needs. All authors hope that writing is our ikigai.

5.  E-Book or physical book? What do you prefer and why?

I love the smell and feel of a physical book but my back appreciates an e-book everytime I go on vacation and I can’t figure out what to pack.
