An Author’s Word: Neeti Singh
1. If not an author which other creative field would one find you in and why?
If not writing, then you’d find me making beautiful homes as an architect and/or landscapist.
2.What does the written word mean to you?
Words must be so written that they inscribe themselves upon the depths of one’s soul, mind and memory – show light or night as they come to life in the reading heart and forge a life of their own through time and centuries…
3. Your personal favourite five authors in any genre.
It’s an eclectic list:
- Charles Baudelaire
- Fernando Pessoa
- Gabriel Garcia Marquez
- Mahashveta Devi
- Anna Akhmatova
4. What is your favourite word, in any language, and how would you describe its meaning?
This is a difficult one, for there are many. ‘Serendipity‘ is one, and ‘Ibaadutt’from Urdu and ‘junoon’ – words that are fluid and filled with a sense of life’s sacredness and magic.
5. E-Book or physical book? What do you prefer and why?
Physical book. For the romance, possession and reality of it! The feel of crisp new pages and the sepia scent and fragility of an old book – that random flower or leaf that has become part of it and surprises you as you turn a page.. books are silent companions subtly entwined with life and memory.
