An Author’s Word: Nancy Raj
1. If not an author which other creative field would one find you in and why?
Illustrations for children has always been my passion. If not illustrations, I’d explore narrative photography for children. If not photography, I’d explore sculpting, I’ll make shapes and textures to narrate stories for children.
2. What does the written word mean to you?
To read or write is like playing with a magic wand. For me this process takes to unseen places, brings a faraway person closer, evokes emotions, makes me think, ask questions and much more. Sometimes it’s simply so powerful that it helps wind-down a terrible day with a peaceful sleep.
3.Your personal favourite five authors in any genre.
I like authors Perumal Murugan, Roald Dahl, Sowmya Rajendran, Madhuri Purandare, Deepa Balsavar, Alice McLerran etc. These are some of the names that I instantly remember. I like many other authors from India and abroad too.
4. What is your favourite word, in any language, and how would you describe its meaning?
I love the word (its meaning perhaps) ‘Reconstruct.’ Life for that matter is unbreakable, but is a combination of many things together, a process we can question, manipulate and change. And everytime we do, we create something new. I believe in this word, it makes me playful like a child and allows to make mistakes or fail without worrying.
5. E-Book or physical book? What do you prefer and why?
I like collecting and gifting physical books. Anyhow I prefer reading from digital medium. It’s way too comfortable for me to find references, meanings, historical facts etc. on the go.
