An Author’s Word: Menaka Raman
1. If not an author which other creative field would one find you in and why?
Hmm, I’m not a very artistic person otherwise as in I can’t draw or craft or paint. Perhaps I might be doing something in film making? Or at least I like to think so.
2. What does the written word mean to you?
A form of expression and the starting point of all my stories.
3.Your personal favourite five authors in any genre.
Margaret Atwood, Anne Patchett, Priya Kuriyan (who brings books to life with her illustrations and has created a wordless picture) , Jon Klassen and Shabnam Minwallah.
4.What is your favourite word, in any language, and how would you describe its meaning?
I don’t know if I have a favourite word, but I used the world ‘lolopped’ recently in a story I was writing to describe how a child went down a set of stairs, with grace and exuberance almost like a rabbit. And I like the sound of that word a lot!
5.E-Book or physical book? What do you prefer and why?
I alternate between both, and really don’t mind. But of course, nothing like going to your local bookstore, leisurely browsing and buying books. Kindle shopping isn’t as much fun!
