An Author’s Word: Mahek Jangda
1. If not an author which other creative field would one find you in and why?
An actor perhaps. Shedding closely held aspects of my identity to get into a character’s skin is cathartic.
2.What does the written word mean to you?
What it means to me keeps shifting. Right now, reading is proving to be life saving almost – other’s experiences and insights nudging me towards understanding my own; while writing – an innate urge, a calling that I must heed to for my own discovery.
3.Your personal favourite five authors in any
You caught me at a wrong time because currently it is – Albert Camus (*5).
4. What is your favourite word, in any language, and how would you describe its meaning?
I’ll give you a phrase. ‘Delam tang shode barat’ – it is a Persian phrase for ‘I miss you’, but the literal translation is – ‘my heart tightens when I think of you’ – accurate description of a malady that strikes me often.
5. E-Book or physical book? What do you prefer and why?
Physical book. I think of reading as a sensory experience and so for me, an E-Book can never compare. Plus, my eyes hurt way too much if I stare at a screen for long.
